How does outdoor coaching work?
Where does the coaching take place?
Outdoors in Lucerne! We usually arrange a meeting point and go for a walk together, for example in the Gütschwald forest. During our walk we will take time to speak about your motivation to start the coaching and in which direction you wish to continue your transition.
What is the advantage of an outdoor coaching?
When coaching outside, we use nature as a source of strength - the wind that gently blows through the leaves; the trees that have managed all difficulties for decades; a blossoming branch standing for a new beginning; a leaf with a hole through which you can gain a whole new perspective; the chirping birds entailing lightness; the leaves that fall from the trees in autumn teaching us to let go. All these and many more symbols can be helpful when you join me for your transformation journey outdoors during which nature serves as an infinite resource, simplifies our view of the big picture and supports self-reflection.
In nature, we also reduce our stress hormone levels, increase the activity of our natural killer cells and lower our blood pressure. Our breath becomes more moderate and we start to feel relaxed. Walking allows us to reorganize our thoughts. Moreover, at a medium walking speed, we are in a rhythm that supports our brain in thinking and learning.
While walking in nature, various senses are stimulated. This multi-sensory perception increases our ability to learn and can therefore support us in taking the right steps for a desired transformation.
What is my role as a coach?
The coaching concept is based on the assumption that the solution always lies within you and that the coach merely supports you in activating your own resources. As a coach, I will try to raise questions that encourage you to think differently and to change your perspective. By acting like an external observer, I try to gain an insight into your situation and make connections that you may not have noticed yourself.
It is also nature that can be considered your coach by teaching you to pause, to accept things as they are and to face changes with strength.
We will be communicating at eye level whereat you are the specialist for your topic. Both nature and I will accompany you on your transformation journey and be your guides.
What if the weather is bad on the day we meet? What if you have a physical condition that makes it difficult to go for a walk?
Weather is weather and therefore constantly changing. A rain shower can also have symbolic power and remind us that only thanks to the rain many plants can grow and flourish. Just as rain refreshes nature, it can help us to take a step forward towards new paths.
In the event of a thunderstorm, other extreme weather conditions or possible physical impairments, we can do the coaching online and still incorporate the nature that each of us has around - either by looking out of the window or using plants that you may have at home.
What if you are not living in Lucerne?
If you live close by, we can arrange a coaching session in a powerful natural surrounding outside Lucerne. There is a minimum requirement of 3 coaching sessions in a row for a coaching outside Lucerne.
If you do not live near Lucerne, it is also possible to do a coaching linked to nature by phone. Therefore, we just take our phones outdoors. Even though we will not be together in the same place, we can make use of the nature and its metaphors around us.
What do you need to bring?
You should be dressed appropriately according to the weather. It is recommended to put on several layers of clothing so that you can easily adapt to changing weather conditions. Please wear comfortable shoes that allow you to walk, also on uneven terrain such as in the forest. Please also take something to drink with you. If you like to write things down, you may want to bring a note book and a pen.
How many coaching sessions do you need? How long does a coaching session last?
You've probably already guessed it. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how many coaching sessions you will need. The answer is as individual as you are. On the one hand, there is many different topics for a coaching and on the other hand, it can also happen that you only become aware of other topics that you would like to work on once we have started the coaching journey. From previous experience, you should consider 4-6 coaching appointments per topic. Each session lasts 60 minutes.
