What is and what is not coaching?

9 points on what coaching is not

#1 Not an advice session - Usually, I will not provide you with ready-made advice in the sense of "do this or that". We will find out together what exactly it is that will help you in your personal situation and how you can release your own resources.

#2 Not an exchange about what I have already experienced in a similar way. - The coaching is about you and you are the focus. If you wish, I will be happy to share my experiences, but that is not the primary intention.

#3 Not a chat session - The aim of coaching is not to have a chit-chat, as they say when you talk about all sorts of topics but do not really get anywhere. If you are unsure which topic you should tackle first in the coaching session, we will work together to find out exactly where you need the most attention and then focus on what will help you achieve your goals.

#4 Not to be compared with therapy - Unlike in therapy, we do not deal with the causes of your issue, but focus primarily on the present and the future. If you are suffering from a mental illness or suspect that you are, it is important to seek professional help. However, coaching can certainly take place in parallel and in collaboration with a therapist.

#5 No universal recipe - Every coaching is as individual as we humans are. There is no universal recipe for all people and their needs as we are  all different from each other. When coaching you, I will try to integrate your individual backpack and work with it accordingly.

#6 Coaching is not a miracle cure - There are issues that cannot be resolved with coaching. For example, mediation may be more suitable for resolving conflicts. I would be happy to discuss this with you in a free introductury call.

#7 Doing a coaching alone is not a guarantee for an improvement of your situation - In a coaching process, your cooperation is essential for the successful completion of it. To implement change it requires will, courage and work on yourself.

#8 Coaching is not expert advice - A coach is not a substitute for expert advice. For example, if you are looking for a suitable further training course, I will normally not provide you with purely factual information for training options. However, I can support you on the path and find out what makes you feel at peace with yourself and your goals.

#9 No endless loop - I hope that you and I will share a part of your path for a little while so that you can find out exactly what you want to change in your life. However, coaching should be limited in time and enable you to be your own guide again as soon as possible.

Would you like to find out more? I look forward talking to you.
